When everything crumbles in my surroundings
That’s when I know to you I must cling
I’m learning You are faithful
I’m learning You are true
I’m learning You are worthy of the praise we bring to You (we bring to you)
(I’m learning You will catch me when I fall)
When I can’t see forests for all the trees
You whisper reminders of Your love for me
We’re learning…

I mainly did this because it made me laugh a lot, but also because I hate having my photo taken… so I thought if I deliberately made myself look silly then that would be ok. And it turns out it is! If you can think of a face I didn’t pull then maybe show me one day - but don’t give me any warning, just do it, ok?
This project also doubles up as a cheap christmas present for my parents, who will get to see my face every day for a whole year on a 2011 calendar. Lucky them.
It’s a roll of 35mm film with little people cut out (with scissors as my housemate couldn’t find her craft knife). It was then wound round a clothes drying rack with a black hoodie underneath, and a spotlight shone on it. Maybe seems like quite a bit of effort for the result but it worked anyway!
The idea was to get across the theme of films, people and community without just having an obvious boring photo of people watching a film together.
It was a few weeks ago that I did it and I’m ashamed to say I’ve only just hoovered up all the little bits of film from the floor…
Can a nation be changed?
I took this photo in Rio de Janeiro of Cristo o Redentor during my gap year. It was really a very happy accident. I took it from Sugar Loaf mountain on one of my last evenings in Rio. I love the image of Christ it portrays it’s kind of got the whole ‘light in the darkness’ thing going on.
