This World, A New Kingdom - 2004

One of many poems about God

I’ve had two wins yet no victory; it eludes me like Moby’s whale, looming over everything I do.

Strange how such an obvious and simple prize seems to disguise itself in different things, or so it appears.

I chase and I cannot catch,
I search and I cannot find,
I know and I cannot get an answer.

This world I inhabit bids me welcome but shows me no hospitality.

Where do I turn to? Where can I find solace, a place to rest? Where do I find my salvation?

I turn to the hills, for that is where my help comes. My help comes from the Lord, he will not let your foot slip; He who watches over me will not slumber.

I find my peace in a new place, a new kingdom and yet a kingdom that has always been; it is only new to me but eternal in nature.

This kingdom bids me welcome and the Ruler gives me white robes and welcomes me home. My hope is found in the one I call Abba, Father.

Here I have all that I need, and all that I want is fulfilled in the one I call Saviour.

I ask and I receive,
I search and I find,
I knock and the door is opened for me.

My soul finds peace, rest and solace in this kingdom; in the place it belongs.
